This year's theme is "Change Your Actions, Change the Planet."

The theme was selected to highlight how our actions as humans directly impact our planet, and our planet directly impacts humans. We all have a responsibility to take better care of Mother Earth. We want people to walk away from this year's festival with ideas and actions that they can take as individuals to help restore and protect our planet. We hope you all will rally behind us on this theme.

Earth Day is a time to celebrate our beautiful planet, meet people from other organizations, convey your message, and recruit members, volunteers, and interested people to participate in the stewardship of our community.  It is a fun day to be outside, talk to new friends, and learn about all the great things that are happening in our community.  To make sure that the event is as interesting, entertaining, educational, and enjoyable as possible we would like to invite YOU to be at this year's Earth Day Celebration!

Food & Beverage

Food, beer and beverages will be available for purchase. Selections are produced locally in and around the greater Wilmington area.

There will be plenty of food and drinks provided by Waterline Brewing Company, Bill's Front Porch Pub and Brewery, Panacea Brewing Co. and Smart Smoothies. For those who are not beer lovers, Noni Bacca Winery will be serving delicious wines as well. Delicious food will be available from Bill's Front Porch, Urban Street Eatz and Hot Diggity Dog, while Granny Niece's Ice Cream Truck will provide delicious desserts.

Culligan will provide drinking water, so bring your reusable water bottle, or buy an official Wilmington Earth Day Alliance water bottle at the event!

We are working hard to make this year's event a ZERO-WASTE event. New Hanover County Environmental Management and Wilmington Compost Company will collect food scraps from the event (plus any the public wants to bring from home), to compost.

New This Year

We will have a hand drumming circle led by Perry Smith and members of Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at UNCW from 1:45pm - 2pm in front of the stage.

Be sure and check out the tiny home developed and displayed by the Cape Fear Community College Sustainability Program. Don't miss the marine educator trailer from the N.C. Division of Marine Fisheries, and the many other exhibitors coming to the park for this year's epic celebration.

There will be exciting activities for any member of the family, including Yoga on the lawn. Enter to win a brand new Hurricane Kayak or any of the other prizes in our raffle. Raffle prizes include some of the best local artwork, yoga sessions, restaurant gift certificates and many more. There will be an ATM machine on site. (Beer purchases are cash ONLY.)

We're excited to announce something new at this year's festival...the Red Tent! This will be the first of its kind at a festival around Wilmington. This gathering space is needed for women to gather, feel safe and secure, meet other women, and have a place to take care of womanly needs without feeling weird or cramped. As the organizer says, "The Red Tent is a safe space to be authentically you. It is a space to come, bleeding or not, for rest, nourishment and support. It is a safe space for bleeding Women to change their menstrual products, nurse and comfort their babes, connect and learn about Her Story. Within the Red Tent, we share in the bond of sisterhood, in the joy of pregnancy and birth, in the power of menstruation and the wisdom of the wise woman crone. When we enter the Red Tent we leave any shame over our bodies at the door. When we leave the Red Tent, we leave empowered, rejuvenated and reminded of our sacredness."

Kids' EcoZone Area

Wilmington's 2019 Earth Day celebration is a family-friendly event encouraging children of all ages to become more aware of our planet.

We are happy to announce the return of the Nature Brigade Parade to the Earth Day activities this year. We are returning to the roots of the Earth Day event and including a nature inspired walking parade. The parade is called the "Nature Brigade Parade" and it will be led by Mark Herbert's Rapping Red Oak (Futureshine Entertainment) from 3:45-4:00 pm. We will start the parade at the kids tent at 3:45pm and walk a short path around the perimeter of the Earth Day festivities and end up in front of the main stage and an ECO jam with the Rapping Red Oak and the "Nature Brigaders" (including members of Cosmic groove lizards). Calling all people who want to dress up as your favorite flora or fauna creature. Kid's can bring their own costumes or make costumes from recycled materials in the Kid's Zone! Let’s make this parade an event to remember!
